Job Overview

Our client, an Athlone-based company specialising in the commercial vehicle industry, is seeking an experienced and dynamic Senior Accounts Specialist to join their team.

The successful candidate will take ownership of the day-to-day financial operations of the business, including accounts preparation, financial reporting and compliance. Working closely with the Financial Controller, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth running of the finance function while maintaining high standards of accuracy and service.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience in senior-level accounts preparation, excellent attention to detail and a good understanding of financial systems and processes.

Key Responsibilities

· Own the monthly Management Accounts process, including P&L and variance analysis.

· Maintain strong financial controls, including GL management, accruals, prepayments and Balance Sheet reconciliations.

· Manage rebate accruals and support the year-end accounts and audit process.

· Oversee cash flow forecasting, funds management and FX approvals.

· Manage aged stock provisioning and reporting.

· Prepare and submit VAT, Intrastat and VIES returns.

· Maintain and manage the Fixed Asset Register.

· Ensure the accurate and seamless flow of financial data across legacy systems.

· Drive continuous improvement through Lean processes, identifying opportunities to reduce waste and improve reporting efficiencies.

· Support ad-hoc finance projects and duties as required.

Core Skills/ Attributes

· Strong hands-on experience across accounts preparation, bookkeeping and day-to-day financial operations, with a solid understanding of Revenue requirements and compliance.

· Proven experience with month-end processes, reconciliations, financial reporting and maintaining accurate financial records.

· Highly organised and detail-focused, with the ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities and communicate effectively with colleagues and management.

· Strong IT and accounting systems skills are essential. Experience with Sage or similar accounting/ERP systems would be an advantage.

· Experience within the motor, automotive, commercial or dealership sectors would be beneficial, but is not essential.
